Camp Pendleton (Sept 28, 2015)
The Navajo Code Talkers were honored Tuesday at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton for their actions that changed the course of history during and after World War II. Code Talkers Roy Hawthorne and Sam Holliday returned to Camp Pendleton for the first time since their communications training in 1942.
The code created by the Navajo Code Talkers remains the only code never to be broken by the enemy and was crucial to winning World War II.
The Commanding General of First Division Headquarters, Major General Daniel O’donahue; presented two Navajo Code Talkers with a special coin. The Code Talkers presented him with a Navajo Code Talker Warrior Blanket.
The ceremony was followed by a luncheon and then Navajo Nation leadership viewed an advanced microgrid and energy storage solution in operation on the base.
